The Rila Mountain - Lying in the south west of Bulgaria, 60 miles (100 km) south of Sofia, the Rila Mountain with their beautiful rugged landscape have so much to offer! The Rilas’ numerous peaks tower over 2500m with the highest of them, Musala, reaching nearly (2925m). Among them, more than 200 mountains lakes can be found in great heights, together with diverse wild life and over 2000 different plants. This region also boasts Bulgaria’s most famous monastery – the Rila Monastery, and the country’s oldest winter resort Borovetz.
ITINERARY
Grade C/B - chalets, hotels
Day1 Arrival in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, situated at the foot of the lovely mountain Vitosha.Transfer to the hotel and night in Sofia.
Day2 Drive to the starting point in Rila (1.30 hours driving), hike to chalet "Mechit", lunch there, descent to St.Gorge church in village Govedartzy. Accommodation at the "Divite Petli" hotel. /4 hours' hike/
Day3 Crossing a stunning valley with two rivers and a beautiful forest, then reaching the most picturesque part of the Rila mountain with its famous seven lakes (2100m above sea level). Accommodation in the "Rilski Ezera" chalet. /5 hours' hike/
Day4 Climbing the mount "Malyovitza" (2729m), one of the most beautiful peaks of the region. Descend through a magnificent valley to chalet "Malyovitza", the place of accommodation. /7 hours/
Day5 Walk to chalet “Ribni Ezera” , passing by "Strashnoto" lake. Enjoy its crystal clear water and the magnificent panoramic views of the Rila and Pirin mountains. /9 hours/. Accommodation in chalet Ribni Ezera.
Day6 Ascent of a series of mountain peaks (between 2600 and 2700m), offering wonderful views of the Rodopie and Pirin mountains. Accomodation in the "Makedonia" chalet. /6 hours/
Day7 Hike to chalet "Granchar" via the peak "Kovach" (2634m) /8 hours/
Day8 Climb the mount "Musala" (2925m), the highest peak of the Balkan Peninsula. Accomodation in "Borovetz", one of the ski resorts in Bulgaria. /6 hours/
Day9 Option to visit to Bistritza King's Palace in Borovetz and walking in resort area. Transfer to Sofia. Sightseeng. Sofia Airport
